975 LB-FT OF FREEDOM! - Chevy Silverado 2500 HD - Review
https://www.minimaxxtuner.comThis is the all new 20124 Chevy Silverado heavy [ Music ] duty, all righty, jumping into the heavy duty truck game. We’Ve had the half ton trucks of 1500s and the F-150, and this is the first time we’ll Tak a look at a heavy duty truck excuse, Jesse, not being here. Unfortunately, he didn’t feel all too well today. So I’m going to do the solo job here, um yeah all new for 2024.

This is the top spec High Country with the dur Max 6.6 L, V8 T 10-speed Allison Transmission and we’re going to take a look at thisday and the question I want to pose is this is marginally more expensive than the 1500 High Country. So, if you’re already spending over 100k, why should you not just get the heavy duty? What we’re find out today, anyhow starting off with a look at the exi, we’re going to take a look at the interior, then we’re going to drive it. This is and Sterling gr metallic, and I got to say first of all, this thing is imposing like look at the size of this thing like the mirrors alone are literally like pretty much my upper body.

Is this mirror it’s crazy but of course it’s a heavy duty truck if you drive heavy duty trucks you’re very much used to this. I was born in Germany. I am not used to these sizes. I do absolutely love them, though, painted in Sterling gray metallic. If I haven’t said that so far, the new front in took a little while for me to warm up to I’ll, be be honest.

This is a little like alien looking just like the 1500 uh looks very Sleek, though, especially at night, with the markco lights. Up top, of course, we have our steps on the side uh some up here. If you want to have access to your bed, our wheels are pretty straightforward. Nothing too fancy and the back looks like literally any other Silverado. We have the fancy multi-pro tailgate, which is like a $ 1,500 option.

Canadian uh, which gives you some more fancy things um, but there’s really not much to say here. It is absolutely huge 250 in in length. This DW is even a raptor aside from L, uh width, obviously, but I think we should take a look at the interior which uh just takes a second for me to get around. Don’T worry about I’ll, be I’ll, be almost back. You might see my feet poking under.

Let’S take a look at the interior, all righty inside the Silverado 2500 and if you’ve been in the Silverado 1500 and the new one, you pretty much know what to expect. And that is a good thing, because it’s a very nice interior materials are really good. The Leathers are nice, the wood is really wonderful. It looks great a lot of like open pore and it just reflects that light really really nicely uh once again, materials even on the center console are really really good. And what’s one of the highlights of the new solar rout interior is the new infotainment.

It’S Android automotive based, so you have Google Maps, Google Assistant the Play Store, all that integrated, so you can just log in if you have Google accounts and use all that straight up or you can connect wireless L, your Android auto and your Apple carplay. I really like the screen. It’S beautiful, the new interior looks infotainment, looks really good great screen. Just like our gauge cluster very customizable. I still love the Ford gauge cluster, a little more because there some cooler animations, but this is really really.

Nice Definitely beats out the RAM and the F-150, I would say in terms of tech F-150, is close uh, while not being quite as nice as the ram. Admittedly, the the ram is just that little bit better, but this is nonetheless really nice. I like the usability. It’S very well laid out. It is very clear and easy to use.

Seats are comfy for any body type, pretty much. I’M 5′. 7. 130 lb uh, not your average truck buyer. Let’S say it like that, but I fit very well I’m very comfy.

I love the high crunchy logo in here and obviously we have heated and ventilated seats right here other than that um we changed. The regular shifter we have in si 1500 for traditional column shift clear up some of that space in the center area. For you to have more storage, we have still our wireless charger and our glove box is still sorry. Our center console is still absolutely huge, taking a look further back. Well, actually, sorry, one thing we have a button have a button that you might like as a silver as a 1500 at 2500 buyer, and that is our tow mirror button.

I know I know heavy duty guys like to have the to mirrors out, and you know, look all fancy and all that I can’t say that I like that stuff, but hey if you in that you’re into that, and you have a button to do it electronically. If you ever want to back put them back in after taking your Instagram photos, you do you. Anyhow, Sun, uh, sun, shade window thing: what’s it called it’s a sun roof sun, roof, wonderful and uh. You have a whole apartment in the back. If you need to have space for people well, that, like you, can’t really have more space than in a truck, and this is just like the 1500 there’s immense amount of space.

You have inseat storage, you have heated seats on both sides and the back and the materials are just as nice as up in front, and if we take a look even further back at the bed, we have 69.5 cubic feet of space in there. So obviously, a step up over the half ton trucks like the Silverado 1500 and F150 uh. You can get bigger bed options. Of course this can be configured.

However, you want. If you don’t, want the crew cap, you can get a single cap long bed. This is a beauty by trucks, very customizable, and you have all the steps on the side and, like I already mentioned, a multipro tailgate on there plenty of options. If you want to have a seat, if you want to have you need that little bit more space to put some stuff in and hold it up whatever that may be, the multipro tailgate allows you to do that, but I like this a lot should we hit The road, though I want to see what this diesel can do. Okay, now on the road in the Silverado heavy duty, 6.

L V8, the highest displacement we’ve ever had on this channel. So far, let’s see what it can do, we’re going to break torqu it. No sport mode, but we have traction control off. Oh, and there comes the torque, oh yeah, so obviously it’s not going to like throw you back in your seat, but wow. This thing is torque, but it yeah wow.

Okay, that’s some! But every time you drive this, you feel like there’s a lot of torque, there’s a lot of power that this uh this Duramax produces. Precisely like I said, we have a 6.6 L, turbocharged diesel V8 producing 470 horsepower and wait for it 975 pound feet of torque, which is just stupid. It’S ridiculous sent to all four wheels through an Allison, 10speed automatic and yeah, like, of course, this is meant for towing.

This is meant, for you know, hauling, like thousands of pounds, I think the highest tow rating you can achieve in the 2500 is at. Like 36,000 pounds we’re far from that uh, but you do know it it’s even in Daily driving like this thing has potential. This has power. I put her back into two high here and the turn on traction control. Um, you never struggle, even with this being 7,000.

Roughly 7,000 in weight, which is a lot obviously so it’s fantastic and honestly, I really love this drivetrain. I love the standard 1500 drivetrain, especially the 6
mini maxx V2 https://www.minimaxxtuner.com
2 L V8 with the 4gm co-developed 10-speed automatic. It’S one F, it’s smooth, and so is this: the 6.6 L, the Allison, is just an absolutely fantastic drivetrain butter, smooth butter, smooth plenty of power, plenty of torque. I really like it, but if you’re a regular viewer, you know that we like to do handling tests in everything we get, including heavy duty.

Pickup trucks apparently going to go a little soft on this, of course, but we’re in two wheel drive

Let’S see what this baby can do come on help me out yeah slight rotation in the back. I I didn’t push it super far. I didn’t I’m not really sure what this could do, but it handled anything I threw at it and daely driving it handled perfectly. Fine um: Let’S talk a little bit about tow rating, though, and especially about the the kind of argument I want to make in favor or against the 20, the 2500. I don’t want to spoil my own video right, so this is always if you try to get into trucks and tow ratings.

This might look a little confusing because depends on what kind of cap you have and what kind of bed two whe drive Fourwh drive, which engine do you have? Do you have these pack packages and all that but aspect? This 2500 can tell up to 21,600 lb with the fifth wheel attachment we have Just sh just shy of 20,000. I think if you just use the ball hitch in the back for regular toing, but that is plenty uh just compared to Silverado of 1500. That is 7 to 8,000 lb

More than that silver out of 1500’s top toour rating payload same thing, We get like 3500 lb of payload, a regular Silverado about 2,000 lb.

So you see there’s a big big step up in terms of capability, but I’m going to postpone the actual comparison until later. In the conclusion, let’s talk about, you know just the Driving Experience itself. Of course this is big. This is uh if you’re not used to that uh it’ll probably throw you off a little bit to drive something that is 250 in in length super wide, so wide

In fact, you need the you know: they need the orange Mark lights. That look like.

I said. Amazing um we’ve been in Raptors, which are super wide. We’Ve been in plenty of trucks like the Step Up from Raptors to this isn’t really huge.
h&s mini maxx tuner https://www.minimaxxtuner.com
So I’m well used to the uh big trucks at this point, so I didn’t find any. I didn’t have any issues like placing this on the road and, quite frankly, I found this to be easy to place in a raptor, even though it is way longer.

But this is just a very relaxed driving. The steering is extremely light Surprisingly, but it is very nice.

It is very easy to precisely place this suspension and noise is really good. It’S a very quiet, cabin right now you hear that diesel a little uh, but that’s because we keep going from like 0 to 80 on the country roads in the city Where I live. I didn’t really notice like the diesel V8 op.

It was a very subdued engine, especially if you have the bow sound system, which is amazing playing. It is barely noticeable on the highway.

It is quiet, very low, wind noise and even with the Z71 package we have here, which is not great for fuel economy or the noise um it, it is still quite quiet. Speaking of fuel economy. Maybe that’s something you care about because uh these, these heavy duty trucks, don’t really get rated.

I’M sitting right now after filming really a lot of commuting in traffic, so this is kind of the worst case, I’m sitting at 17 lers per 100 km. If you drive out in the country often you can probably get this down without the c71 package to 145, so maybe like 2 to 3 l more than an equivalent 1500 Silverado uh, like I said, suspension is extremely compliant, even with just me in the truck no Payload and I’ve read multiple times that you know these trucks get even better in terms of their right quality when you load them up, because that’s what they’re meant to do right, they’re meant to have stuff in the bed.

They’Re meant to have multiple people in the truck. I don’t have that, and even I’m super comfy in the city on the highway this. This is really just like a Silverado of 1500, extremely nice, extremely comfortable, which brings us to driving Tech which, like I said, we have our reiew mirror, which I love.

We have adaptive cruise control. We have a lane, keep assist, no active Lane centering and no super Cruise available on here, but nonetheless uh

This is really just a fantastic truck Is what I’m trying to say. This is a great truck that even as someone who has no use case in my daily life for a truck like this as someone that works in an office in the city uh, I still found this to be extremely relaxing, really, nice truck to be the reason By the way, why we’re not Towing is a this was kind of a last minute booking to replace another vehicle. So I didn’t have the time to prepare and B um the regular Ontario License doesn’t allow you to tow as much as this can do and it would have been kind of a waste to tow something. That’S a lot smaller and there’s great channels out there that do amazing, Towing comparisons.

So if you’re looking for towing, I can highly recommend checking these guys out um, But my initial argument, my question was: if, if there is such a huge step up in capability with a 2500, why would you go for the 1500 if you intend on Towing and First argument, of course, is price aspect. This Diesel 2500 spec out Z71 package trailing Trailer package. All that stuff is $ 3,824. Canadian, that’s a lot of money, but once you consider that if you spec out a half ton truck, you end up at 100K and the diesel engine is about 11k in options once you negate that go for the 6.6 L gas V8.

You end up at like $ 3 $ 4,000 more than A500, and at that point you can still tow about 4 to 5,000 lb more than the max spec out, most capable 1,500

You get about 1,400 more pounds of payload, You have a bigger bed for 14 For like3 $ 4,000 more, which is like that’s a big increase in capability for the money. I think, of course, the fuel econom is going to be a little bit worse. You might have a little more struggle parking that if you are in the city or somewhere, where you don’t always have a driveway, I can lucky enough that the street eye Park on is always fairly empty at night.

So I don’t really struggle with parking whatsoever. Let’S send it once more time come on diesel.

Unfortunately, there’s not much sound in terms was like exhaust. I was kind of like hoping had some Cool Diesel sound, but I guess you got you got you got to roll coal. You got to do that yourself, guys not that I like coal rolling, but you know I know a lot of people do um. Anyhow,

So basically, my argument is, if you intend, on buying a truck to tow more than like 6,000 lb semi-regularly Step Up step up to the 2500 four five grand more you get so much capability, it’ll be so much easier to tow. You have additional options like with the diesel.

Here we get the exhaust break, we have the tow mirrors and a bunch of other stuff that just makes Towing even easier than the regular 1500 might allow you to do so. Really. This is, I kind of always expected these heavy duties to be

You know they’re more commercial they’re, just going to be a big step up in money, turns out they’re really isn’t once you spec them correctly, and you can still get a lot of the benefits. Do I love the diesel? Yes, do I love the 20 2100 uh.

21,600 lb to be precise, uh toll rating. We have in this. Of course, it’s it’s sick.

It’S really cool Well, most people know that I need that, Probably not and that’s when you can go for the 6.6 year gas V8 and still get a wide margin of like higher performance compared to the 1500 fantastic truck.

I absolutely love it and we’re definitely going to get into more heavy duties, probably more oriented towards uh off-roading, though so be on the lookout for ZR2 review next year.

Tremor reviews maybe get a 7.3 L gas. Maybe you comparison so uh keep an eye out for that and other than that. Thank you so much for watching.I hope you enjoyed it if you enjoyed it, make sure to like And subscribe, and I hope I’ll see you in the next one.

Thank you and goodbye.
